The Organisation

Grounded in Kenya. Built for scale.

Inner Power is an evidence-informed non-profit operating in East Africa. We exist to build the ground where young men think clearly, reject isolation, and grow the internal capabilities that lift entire communities.

Our Origin Story

Why we built this.

The pattern

The method behind Inner Power didn’t begin as a public programme. It began as a practice developed over thirty years by our founder, Karsten Alva-Jorgensen, who has supported the development of young people since he was a young man himself. Across a career as an international management consultant and a leader in global financial-services organisations, he kept noticing the same quiet pattern: strategic change and operational capacity never rise higher than the mindset and capability of the people carrying them.

The crisis

When Karsten turned his focus fully to developing people — through leadership, team and personal growth — he kept meeting the same quiet crisis. Young men leaving education and entering the workforce were carrying heavy burdens they rarely spoke aloud:

  • The pressure to provide for themselves and their families.
  • Little clarity of direction or purpose.
  • Uncertainty about how to approach life, and high expectations from themselves and others.
  • A baseline of social isolation.

For many of the young men he met, these became unbearable — especially when amplified by forces none of them controlled:

  • A world changing faster than anyone could keep pace with.
  • Too little opportunity, and too few practical skills.
  • The constant, unhealthy comparison with social media one-dimensional identities.
  • Unanswered questions about how to express masculinity well in the modern world.
  • A habit of keeping thoughts and emotions bottled up, and trying to manage life entirely alone.

What was missing

The standard answers were rarely enough. Traditional training tended to be transactional and piecemeal — delivering content, but no reliable way to turn knowledge into results. Clinical support, while valuable, carried both stigma and cost, putting it out of reach for most young men.

The pieces of a real solution each had good evidence on their own. What was missing was a way to bring them together into one whole.

What changed

The vision was simple: help young men thrive by bringing together everything they needed. By merging psychological education, a consistent meeting structure, a group of like-minded peers with a trained facilitator, the first Inner Power Growth Circles were formed, carried by a solid curriculum of psychological and practical skills. We ran our first test cohorts — and the change began to show:

  • Greater clarity, clearer sense of purpose and direction, and confidence to move forward.
  • Stronger social fitness, clearer communication, and a more solution-focused way of thinking.
  • A baseline of self-respect and healthy self-image that set young men on a new trajectory.

This is Ubuntu made practical — I am because we are. The move from isolation into togetherness is the heart of the model, not a side effect of it. Today that same model is being deployed where the need is greatest: run locally, on the ground in Kenya, and built to scale across East Africa and the wider continent.

The Cultural Foundation

"I am because we are. And because we are, therefore I am."

We believe that a man's character and strength cannot be built in isolation. He is shaped, tested, and elevated in the company of other men who hold him accountable to the potential he carries.
Who Leads the Work

Strategy informed by global experience, delivery from the community.

Inner Power doesn't operate through distant oversight. Our approach is built on deep coaching and practical expertise, and carried forward by trained, local facilitators who belong to the communities they serve.

Founder & Lead Coach

Karsten Alva-Jorgensen

Karsten brings over three decades of international executive experience — across Andersen Consulting and later Accenture, and HSBC, spanning four continents. He built the Inner Power Growth Circle methodology to bring executive-grade reflective structure into youth development, alongside the best of positive psychology, leadership development, and practical skills for building real capacity.

Local Facilitator Framework

Local Delivery Network

Our circles are led by credible, locally based facilitators trained intensively in Inner Power methods. Fluent in local contexts and languages, they hold the weekly circle, keep it a place of trust, and carry the method in the language each young man speaks — so the model stays grounded and culturally authentic.

Stand with these young men.

This works when you're in it, not watching it. Whether you're ready to join a local circle or partner with us, let's talk.
